Hey everybody….I hope everyone is doing great and ready to wind it down for a little bit this week. I know I am! It’s been a crazy fun time out there on the road, traveling all across this great land of ours and meeting you guys in your home towns. I’ve gotta tell ya, being able to do THAT is one of the things I am most thankful for this year. In case no one has told you lately…y’all totally kick butt! I feel that I have been so blessed –getting to come into your hometowns, go by the radio stations that bring you great country music every day, and even perform for you. As I have told you many times, music is my BIG passion, and to be able to make a living doing what you love—well that is a blessing beyond belief.
But like I said, now it’s time to dial it back a little, and spend some time with my family—I have really missed them since I have been traveling so much this year. I thought it would be fun to share with you a typical Gentry Thanksgiving. Me and all of my brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews always head to my mom’s for Thanksgiving in Carrollton. It’s a BIG bunch of people—lots of laughing and joke telling…and food. Aww man…the food!!!! It’s guaranteed there will be lots of country cooking, and LOTS of desserts. My favorite is my grandmother’s lemon meringue pie. Unfortunately she is no longer with us…but to honor her, we make that pie every year from her recipe. And something else I look forward to is my sister Mimi’s crab dip – just give me the bowl and a spoon LOL!
Something else I can guarantee you is that at some point during Thanksgiving, the musical instruments will come out and there will be a lot of singing. We’ll sing lots of great Gospel hymns, because that’s what we love, and grew up singing.
So to all of you from me, have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving…and see you after the holiday!

My birthday falls on thanksgiving once every 4 years (it's today!) and as a child I remember my parents putting birthday candles in the turkey for me to try to make the day special

A smilpe and intelligent point, well made. Thanks!
SarahI feel this way a lot too. It's like pre-nostalgia being wistful for a time that's auctally currently either the present or even the future. Makes me a bit melancholy and I never know why.
Hey Joe Runner, My family and I will be taverling up from Florida to Louisville for Thanksgiving. We would love to run this 5 miler Thanksgiving morning. Is there a chance you could send me a copy of the registration? Thanks!
